Forthwith and notwithstanding, I shall attempt to summarise our dichotomy in a series of statements directly contiguous to this preamble.

  1. We don't know what they (the constabulary) know.
  2. We don't know what they (the constabulary) are up to.
  3. We don't know what they (the demons) know.
  4. We don't know what they (the demons) are up to.
  5. We don't know what they (any other demon-hunting organisation) know.
  6. We don't know what they (any other demon-hunting organisation) are up to.
  7. We, in short, know very little.

Now, outlined like this, our problem would not seem to be one of building an alibi or dispatching demons or even exchanging information with other possible groups - our problem is with information flow. In short, we need throughput, what!

I suggest that liberal use of coin of the realm within the hallowed halls of the fifth estate would benefit us immensely. At the moment we and a few others seem to rely on the sketchy reports of local newspapers to indicate the wiles of the evil one, but how many stories end up on the editor's floor, due to implausibility?

If we were to make organised use of the press (say if persicue were to buy a small newspaper) we could garner many pieces of information not ordinarily printed - including perhaps off-the-record comments made by the police to reporters on our own case...

This would allow us to gauge the police opinion and keep better informed of the comings and goings within this green land of ours.

Failing this, we should covertly fire-bomb the police station, just to be on the safe side.

Your very good chum
Dr H. Cadwalliter
