Mein Herr Doktor Cadwalliter, I assure you I share your conviction as to the necessity of our remaining alive and operational, reaons for which including but not being exhausted by the encroaching horrors to which we are opposed. Yet I cannot share your unconditional acceptance of the expendability of any humanity you are finding conveniently expendable. This is not a foreign trait; popular understanding to the contrary, the Swiss are vertebrates. I know. I've taken a few apart.

Let us review the facts again, shall we? 1)The course of nature as we know it has been upset by a number of ghastly demonic horrors which are bent on tyrannical occupation; we among no one else we know stand against this; making explicit the supressed premise that this should be stood against, we may conclude that we ought to keep functioning and ought therefore not to get caught and incarcerated/hanged/torn apart with hot forks for having a church burned and an entire congregation murdered. Understood; while I cannot agree that the importance of our position 'transcends any moral implications' (I do not think that this is possible, but I wouldn't expect you to understand that, Doctor; you can't help being hopelessly cut off from any sense of civilised moralality, ja?) I do agree with Mr. Stoatley when he implies that the moral facts of the matter balance in our favour.

Facts we don't have: 1) That anybody will be persecuted for the burning and murdering of aforementioned church and congregation. 2) That we will be persecuted for the aforementioned. 3)That even if we are it will be necessary for anyone to be sacrificed; who in their right mind would believe of most of us that wanton destruction and mayhem is something we would be doing for a lark? Certain company excluded, of course.

I suggest that we return to whatever semblance of our lives is possible, and wait. If we are approached, so be it. I seriously doubt that we shall be implicated, but if we are, and if the worst is realised, we can then be dealing with it. I don't think there is a natural gaol in all of England that can hold us if we are putting our minds to it. Oh yes, we left Saturday because there had been an accident. We were not aware of any burnings of churches. It only matters that we all tell the same story, or it will be certain suspicion to invite. And no more invitings of unwelcome things.

I think it unnecessary to say that I will have no part of the 'Jim's incriminating suicide bid' plan, but it may be necessary to remark that I shall, if necessary, take steps to prevent its being enacted.

Dr. A. G. Pitcairn-Strangechilde
